The parks
History
Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney park built outside the United States, on part of a 600-acre landfill. Unlike Disney's other resorts, Disney neither owns nor operates any of it: the Oriental Land Company owns and runs the resort and licenses intellectual property from The Walt Disney Company. Tokyo DisneySea opened with seven themed 'ports of call'; its eighth port, Fantasy Springs, opened on 6 June 2024 with its own Fantasy Springs Hotel. Both parks rank among the most visited theme parks in the world: in 2024 Tokyo Disneyland was fourth and Tokyo DisneySea seventh.
