The parks
History
Cypress Gardens, the park Legoland replaced, opened on January 2, 1936, as a botanical garden and was billed as Florida's first commercial tourist theme park; it closed for good in 2009. Legoland Florida preserved its botanical park, along with a vast banyan tree planted as a seedling in 1939. At 145 acres it is the second-largest Legoland park, after Legoland Windsor, and the second in the United States after Legoland California, which opened in 1999. Its Miniland USA rebuilds American cities and landmarks in more than 32 million Lego bricks.
