History
Disneyland was built on about 160 acres of orange groves and walnut trees and opened in 1955, a year after construction began. The resort took shape in 2001, when Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and Disney's Grand Californian Hotel opened. The second park was renamed Disney California Adventure in 2010 and rebuilt over five years in a $1.1 billion project, with Cars Land and Buena Vista Street opening in 2012. Disneyland added Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in 2019, and Disney California Adventure's Avengers Campus opened in 2021. Disney California Adventure was built on the site of Disneyland's original parking lot, and its Pixar Pier opened in 2018.
