Month-by-Month Guide

Disney World in October 2026: Crowds, Weather & the Best Weeks to Visit

October is one of the most popular months to visit Walt Disney World — and with good reason. The weather finally becomes comfortable, the parks fill with fall décor, and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs through the end of the month. But crowds vary significantly by week, and some October dates are far better than others.

Is October a good time to visit Disney World?

Yes — with caveats. Early-to-mid October weekdays (roughly October 1–15, Monday through Thursday) are among the least crowded days of the entire second half of the year. Once school is fully back in session after Labor Day, weekday attendance drops significantly. The heat breaks. Afternoon thunderstorms largely stop. It is genuinely a sweet spot.

The complication: Columbus Day weekend (second weekend of October) brings a meaningful bump. And late October — the final two weeks — trends busier as fall break, Halloween, and school holidays in different regions overlap. The gap between the first and last week of October is large.

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

MNSSHP is a separately ticketed evening event held at Magic Kingdom on select nights from mid-August through October 31. The event typically runs 7 PM–midnight and requires a separate ticket (regular park admission does not include it).

How MNSSHP affects crowds

On party nights, Magic Kingdom closes to regular day guests around 6–7 PM. This means the daytime park empties earlier than normal — which creates unusually short lines in the late afternoon before the party swap happens. But party nights also see crowds spike inside Magic Kingdom during the event itself, particularly around 9–11 PM when the parade runs.

If you want to avoid MNSSHP crowds at Magic Kingdom, avoid the park on party evenings and instead hit EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom — all of which are unaffected and often quieter on party nights because some families are at Magic Kingdom.

Is MNSSHP worth buying?

Yes for families with young children who value the trick-or-treat trails, character meets in costume, and the holiday parade atmosphere. Less compelling for adults without kids or for guests primarily chasing rides — the party runs shorter ride hours than a typical full day, and the event has a $110–$150+ price tag on top of park admission.

October is one of the two best weather months at Disney World (November being the other). Afternoon thunderstorms that define summer largely disappear after mid-September. You might want a light layer for the evenings — especially late October when temperatures can dip into the upper 50s after dark.
