Natura 2000 site: Protected under both the EU Birds and Habitats Directives. Site ES0000337 "Estrecho", 19,170 ha.

Protected habitats: Reefs (3,946 ha); Thermo-Mediterranean and pre-desert scrub (3,029 ha); Dehesas with evergreen Quercus spp. (648 ha); Wooded dunes with Pinus pinea and/or Pinus pinaster (546 ha) *; Pseudo-steppe with grasses and annuals of the Thero-Brachypodietea (393 ha) *. 32 habitat types listed for the site, 6 of them priority types (*).
